The H1N1 influenza virus is now known to infect numerous species of animals, including pets such as dogs, cats, ferrets and pet pigs. Flu-like respiratory symptoms in these species may be due to infection with the H1N1 virus and prompt veterinary attention is recommended for sick pets with these types of symptoms. However, there is no need to panic and certainly no need to surrender or abandon pets because the H1N1 threat.
