Hermit crabs are crustaceans bearing a name which has connotations of a solitary lifestyle, though they are actually creatures which live in groups. They are widely kept as pets. They do not emit any bad odor, and do not generally give an infection or cause an allergy in those handling them. All these add to their popularity as pets.
