I have been reading quite a bit and been referred to Nick A. quite a bit in the last couple days through Google Alerts. Where as his 'basic' information isn't too bad, it is by far incomplete. Hermit crabs need a much wider variety of food to remain healthy, and are not able to eat all foods that humans can. The foods with sugars and spices should be avoided. Where as a shell maybe used for food if one only has a couple of hermit crabs, if one has over a handful a larger food dish should be offered. A shell for water is not acceptable, but should be a dish of some sort so the hermit crab can climb in with ease and fill their shell or soak if they wish to. Please go to Crab Street Journal for complete proper care and criteria a hermit crab needs while living in captivity.
