While people who are obese have the option of going on Atkins, or even having gastric bypass surgery or gastric band surgery to shrink their stomachs, obese dogs and cats do not have this luxury. Obese dogs and cats may be unaware that they even are obese, and may simply enjoy dining on the delightful array of foods that their owners put before them, unaware of the physical problems that this buffet of excess could potentially cause them.
